Community partnerships

Direction: Strengthen community partnerships to leverage campus and local action

University of Waterloo was founded by the local community, and has been an important partner in the development of the Region of Waterloo ever since. As the neighborhoods, cities, and regions around the campus increasingly focus on sustainability transitions, there is ample opportunity to deepen the partnerships with a focus on sustainability.

Waterloo remains actively involved in numerous local sustainability partnerships, including with the City and Region of Waterloo, local non-profit organizations, school boards, and other community groups.

From holding educational events for youth, to facilitating important dialogues and conversations related to sustainability, to supporting staff and faculty participation on boards and advisory committees, to leveraging academic expertise toward real-world community challenges, Waterloo remains deeply involved in and committed to supporting local sustainability action.
