Direction: Deliver world-class research in support of sustainability
Waterloo continues to develop deeper understanding of and solutions toward key sustainability challenges. With deep strengths in natural and physical sciences, technology, innovation, policy, and governance, researchers across campus are supporting partnerships across multiple sectors that mobilize the University’s expertise.
In 2025, Waterloo’s Global Futures Fund supported numerous sustainability focused research projects, while researchers across campus continued to tap into public and private sector funding opportunities. From climate adaptation to effective water management, and from sustainable energy to advanced materials sciences, these research outputs are translating to meaningful impacts across communities.
Additional opportunities to coordinate research across disciplines and identify further collaborations on and off campus continue to be explored.
