University of Waterloo was honored to accept the Water Efficiency Excellence award on November 20th, in recognition of the campus' efforts to install water-efficient fixtures in bathrooms and kitchens.
The award is issued to organizations who lead by example in implementing water-efficient technologies and systems that conserve water resources.
Throughout 2022-23, the University installed over 3,800 aerators on taps and faucets across dozens of buildings, as well as more than 1,500 low-flow showerheads in residence suites and gyms. These reduce the flow of water that people use for hand washing and showers, saving over an estimated 20,000 cubic meters per year of water.
A portion of the initiative was funded through the Region of Waterloo's Water Efficient Technology (WET) program, with the University funding the majority of the project costs.
Mat Thijssen, Director of Sustainability, and Stepanka Elias, Executive Director of Facilities, accepted the award on the University's behalf.
