SCI Talks: Building Sustainability at Waterloo

What is Waterloo doing to improve sustainability on campus? What role can students and employees play? Join Mat Thijssen and Sustainable Campus Initiative for a discussion about Waterloo’s 2016 annual Sustainability Report and the directions of Waterloo’s first-ever Environmental Sustainability Strategy. The talk will be hosted by Mat Thijssen, the University of Waterloo’s Sustainability Coordinator, who leads institutional environmental sustainability efforts across campus.

Mat Thijssen coordinates the University of Waterloo's sustainability activities and efforts, in partnership with a broad range of stakeholders on and off campus. He also provides support to the President's Advisory Committee onEnvironmental Sustainability. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo, Mat worked for three years with Sustainable Waterloo Region, a local environmental non-profit that helps convert organizational interest in sustainability into tangible action.

SCI Talks is intended to engage and educate UW community members on sustainability ideas. Each talk will be presented by a local member of the community who is involved in sustainability whether it's head-on or behind-the-scenes. Each talk is 1 hour long with a presentation or workshop and Q & A at the end. You will have the opportunity to network and engage with the speaker throughout their talk - ask any questions you have on their experiences and passions.

The SCI Talks are going to be held on Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM at EV3-4408 from October 5 to November 9 (excluding October 12). Every time you attend a SCI Talk you have a higher chance of winning in our Weekly Draw.
