Bike tag reading "we wheelie love that you rode your bike today"
June was Bike Month across Waterloo Region! In partnership with TravelWise, the Sustainability Office challenged employees and students to participate in events and challenges throughout the month to promote the use of active transportation to campus and celebrate those who have committed to cycling.

To start the month off and celebrate those who help reduce our campus’ carbon footprint, the Sustainability Office and TravelWise tagged over 800 bikes on campus with a note of our appreciation.

On June 20, our Bike Lunch event brought out more than 250 people throughout the day. Cyclists had the chance to chat with campus groups and local organizations, receive free tune-ups from King Street Cycles, and enjoy some coffee and treats. Congratulations to our 11 Bike Lunch winners who took home a mix of bike gear prize packs, King St Cycles gift card, bundle from Retail Services, and vouchers to Enterprise CarShare.

Over the month, over 100 UWaterloo cyclists logged 2,050 bike trips as part of our bike challenge! We also saw that more than half of challenge participants rode their bike in at least half the month. Altogether, they rode more than 6,000km and saved 1.4 tons of CO2. Amazing work! Congratulations to the winners of our random draw, who took home a gift card to King Street Cycles, Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), or Retail Services, or a bike gear gift basket.

Thanks again to all for participating throughout the month!
