Zero Waste Month by the numbers...
As Zero Waste Month comes to a close, the Sustainability Office would like to reflect on the progress the campus community has made to becoming a zero-waste campus this October!
In the past month, 93Shift:Zero Pledges were made to take individual action to prevent and reduce waste on campus. This includes utilizing resources such as theShift:Zero sorting guide to put waste in its place.
The Sustainability Office and Plant Operations – Environmental Services hosted the second annual Zero Waste Fair. Joined by six campus partners, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy free coffee in reusable mugs while learning about waste reduction resources available to them. After the event, seven sustainability prize packs were awarded to attendees to promote the use of reusable items on campus!
The event also featured the launch of the Free Store, an initiative to keep goods in use for as long as possible, promoting a circular campus economy! Within the three-hour pop-up, the Free Store diverted over 150 kg (about 330.69 lb) of goods from the landfill by offering them to the campus community at no cost.
Thank you for helping to build a zero waste campus, together!
