Waterloo is thrilled to release its 2025 Environmental Sustainability Report. Prepared by the President's Advisory Committee on Environmental Sustainability (PACES), this annual report presents progress toward the 27 objectives within Waterloo’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy (ESS).
University of Waterloo has earned a STARS Gold rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.
Waterloo has recently been named in the top 3% of sustainable institutions as part of the QS Sustainability rankings.

On Earth Day 2022, Waterloo is excited to release its first report to reflect on some of the work being done across the University to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These 17 goals are a global framework agreed to by all countries, intended to guide nations and institutions in building a better future for all.

Waterloo is excited to announce that it has earned a Silver rating on the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (STARS), a comprehensive reporting framework for post-secondary institutions. The rating recognizes Waterloo’s progress and actions across academics, campus operations, community engagement, and campus planning and governance.

Each year, Waterloo publishes a summary of the actions that students, staff and faculty have taken across campus to reduce our environmental impact. From new research projects to student events to ongoing changes to policy and practice, it is inspiring to see the dedication and involvement of so many people in our University community.
