EV Charging

A sustainable transportation system includes the transition to electric and alternative fuel vehicles. To accommodate, Waterloo has expanded its charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and has added a new incentive for electrification of the campus fleet of vehicles.

The EV charging stations are available to anyone with a valid monthly parking permit, or a daily pass purchased through AMP Mobile.

Except for the Tesla charger, all stations on main campus currently use the FLO/AddEnergie Network, allowing you to view station status to see which locations are available. You can also monitor the status of your charging session during the day through a smartphone app from the station vendor.

Current locations:

  • E6: Tesla charger (Non-FLO network), Level 2 charger, Level 3 rapid-charger
  • SCH: Two Level 2 chargers

  • EC2: Three Level 2 chargers

  • EC4: Three Level 2 chargers

  • NH: Two Level 2 chargers

  • Lot L: Three Level 2 chargers

  • Plant Ops lot: Two Level 2 chargers (University of Waterloo fleet vehicles only)

Rules for use

Charging is limited to four hours per use and is for active charging only – not general parking. Once your vehicle is charged or the time is up, please move it to a regular spot. Only electric vehicles with EV documentation on file or green plates can use these stations. Misuse, like unplugging and reconnecting to reset the timer, may result in a ticket or towing.

Please note the charging stations are designed for standard partial or fully powered electrical vehicles. Spaces are not designed for motorcycles, off-road vehicles, or commercial vehicles usage.

For more information on the charging stations, read our EV parking policy on our Regulations page.
