Grand River Transit (GRT) is our local transit authority that operates buses around Waterloo Region and the ION light rail train through the cities of Waterloo and Kitchener. University of Waterloo has its own station on the ION line.
UW and TravelWise: Discounted Transit Fares
UW is a member of a workplace program called TravelWise, which offers support to its members as they make sustainable choices when travelling to and from work, including UW employee discounts for GRT.
TravelWise GRT Corporate Pass
UW employees can order the GRT Corporate Pass, which is a personalized GRT EasyGO fare card that gives you access to two exclusive fare products:
Corporate Monthly Pass
- The Corporate Monthly Pass saves UW employees 15% off a monthly pass! This is a great option for employees who commute to work almost every day or use local transit outside of work. You can choose to autorenew this pass each month, or, if you only need it for certain months, you can load the pass only when you need it.
Corporate Stored Value
- Like the Corporate Monthly Pass, Corporate Stored Value saves UW employees 15% per transit trip. This is a great option for employees who occasionally commute to work or occasionally use local transit outside of work, so they can also enjoy transit savings and benefits from UW's TravelWise membership.
How to get your GRT Corporate Pass and load your card
- Complete GRT’s Corporate Pass Request Form
- You will need to provide your home address, company name, and a photo of yourself.
- GRT staff use this information to confirm your eligibility, create your EasyGO Corporate fare card, and audit the program.
- Your EasyGO Corporate fare card will be mailed to you within two weeks of completing the request form.
- GRT aims to ship your card in time for the first of the month. However, orders received late in the month may be delayed.
- Once you receive your card, you can either create an account and load your card online or you can load your card at an in-person location, including the fare vending machine located on the ION light rail platform at the UW Station on east campus.

Where will my Corporate Pass be shipped?
Your EasyGO corporate fare card is sent to the mailing address you provide on your application. If you require your card to be sent to a different address, please contact TravelWise@regionofwaterloo.ca after you have completed the online form.
How do I renew my Corporate Monthly Pass and can I sign up only ?
Once you create your online EasyGO fare card account, you can choose to autorenew your Corporate Monthly Pass every month or you can purchase the pass for only the month you need.
Can I load tickets/value onto my card?
You can load Stored Value onto your card, which will deduct the "ticket price" for an individual trip when you tap on transit.
If you have both a valid Corporate Monthly Pass and Stored Value on your card, the card reader will recognize your Monthly pass first and not subtract from your Stored Value.
What are the advantages of the Corporate Pass?
The GRT Corporate Pass will save you 15% on your monthly transit pass or 15% off individual trips compared with GRT's regular current rates.
