If you are currently a Laurier-based undergraduate student in the double degree program (Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with either Bachelor of Mathematics (BMath) or Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) and you wish to change to a single degree program within the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo, you need to make a request for admission.
Read the following information to learn about what you need to be admitted and the application process.
Notes:
- If you are a Waterloo-based undergraduate student in the double degree program, the following information does not apply and you need to complete a Plan Modification Form.
- If you are interested in a degree program outside the Faculty of Mathematics, you must apply to that program via OUAC.
Admission requirements
For the Faculty of Mathematics to consider your application, you must meet all of the following criteria:
- You have successfully completed all first-year double degree program requirements (BBA/BMath or BBA/BCS).
- Your most recent academic standing was Good or Excellent.
- You meet the University of Waterloo's admission English Language Requirements, or you completed an appropriate English course with a minimum grade of 70% while enrolled as a double degree student.
- To transfer from BBA/BCS to BCS, a grade of at least 60.0 in CS 136 is required. In addition, your eligibility will be determined based on your Computer Science major average, or your CS 136 grade if you are currently in your first year.
- Your total number of failures will be considered in the transfer decision.
Things to consider before applying
- Consult with your Waterloo-based academic advisor to understand academic implications and to discuss possible next steps.
- Until a decision is made, you are expected to continue to follow your current double degree curriculum.
- By default, you will be considered for the regular system of study.
- Co-op applications will be considered for first year transfers only. Applicants must have no more than 6.0 units completed, including transfer credits, by the end of the term in which they apply.
- First year transfers interested in a co-op degree can apply to transfer to co-op. You should seek out details about co-op eligibility when asking to be admitted to Waterloo; admission to the co-op system of study is highly competitive and admission is not guaranteed.
- No admission request will be approved until all outstanding fee balances at Laurier are settled.
- You will only be considered for a current term transfer prior to the end of the first week of term (or the deadline for 100% refund at Laurier, whichever comes first). It is your responsibility to be aware of Laurier’s deadlines when applying for admission and to take the necessary steps for a refund.
- Admission offers are sent to your uwaterloo.ca email address. It is important that you monitor your account regularly and respond to offers of admission promptly.
- All admission decisions must be finalized prior to the end of the first week of classes for current term enrolment.
- If you are admitted to Waterloo:
- You will need to apply for scholarships and financial aid at Waterloo (scholarships and financial aid are tied to the home institution).
- Any transfer credits on the record will be reassessed and may be updated.
Admission application details
You need to complete and submit an Application for Institutional Transfer by the indicated deadline.
Notes:
- If you have not completed all first-year required courses, you must apply for admission to the Faculty of Mathematics via OUAC.
- There is no guarantee that by filling out the application form you will be accepted.
Application deadlines
Complete the form at least one month before the start of the next term:
- December 1 (for winter term admission)
- April 1 (for spring term admission)
- August 1 (for fall term admission)
