Gender Journeys

Gender Journeys is a supportive psychoeducational group specifically designed to support gender diverse (trans, non-binary, two-spirit, questioning) UW Students. This is a person, supportive and affirming group opportunity to explore important topics that can be key for gender wellness. The group is facilitated by Washington Silk, a counsellor with lived experienced.

The important topics we will explore together include but may not be limited to:

• Understanding gender and exploring your own identity(s)
• Coming out and navigating family dynamics
• Navigating medical and legal transition
• Dealing with transphobia, discrimination and creating safety
• Gender Dysphoria and Euphoria
• Sexual health and romantic relationships
• Mental Wellness

This will be a small group (max 10) people with individual and group activities. There is no expectation for participation to have experience gender dysphoria or to want to transition in any way.

Facilitators

Washington Silk (They/them), MSW, RSW is the 2SLGBTQ+ Student Support Counsellor, Counselling Services. I am a transgender and queer therapist and social worker. I have had the pleasure of working and learning from and with the queer and trans community for over the past decade. I am a white settler from Alberta. I also have lived experience of ADHD and learning disabilities. My life experiences inform my approaches and motivation for supporting students during this unique time of growth in many students lives. Outside of work I love dogs, science fiction, cheese, miniature things, and good conversations.
