MATES (Mentor Assistance Through Education and Support) is a one-to-one peer support program offered by the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA). MATES provides services to students who are experiencing social difficulties, and transitional challenges adapting to university life or different cultures.
Our Services
MATES volunteers go through an intensive selection process and receive extensive training in the following areas:
- stress
- academic issues
- social and relationship difficulties
- transitional challenges to university life
- challenges in adapting to culture

We offer virtual appointment sessions. Students can set up an appointment with a MATES Peer Supporter by contacting us at our email address to receive our support.
