Brief description of the organization
The ADAPT (Advancements and Data science to Address Planetary perioperative Threats) Lab at the University of British Columbia aims to improve health resilience in a changing planet through data science and healthcare redesign. We study the impact of emerging environmental hazards (including climate change and extreme weather events) on outcomes and care delivery for patients undergoing surgeries. We integrate these insights into patient-centred healthcare redesign to improve outcomes and strengthen health system resilience.
Problem area
Climate change and environmental hazards are increasingly linked to health problems. However, research in this area is hampered by difficulty linking environmental, socioeconomic, and health data.
Main objectives
This project involves developing a massive real-time dataset and standardized dictionaries amalgamating all existing relevant datasets, followed by a public-facing analytics dashboard to show real-time statistics and visualizations. This will allow for research and real-time alerts, to give the public, clinicians, and researchers early warning of potential signals of harm.
Scope of work
You can see our prototype with just temperature on our website. We would like to turn this into a site with a comprehensive set of datasets with visualization and analytics capabilities for researchers, clinicians, and the public. The student will be a co-author on a manuscript describing this dataset.
