PD 14: Technological Futures: Responsible Digital Innovation

Shape your career in a tech-driven future while building skills employers value. Explore how technology transforms work, learn to make responsible decisions and apply practical tools directly to your co-op and EDGE experiences.

Are you curious about how emerging technologies like AI and digital platforms are reshaping jobs and industries? PD 14 gives you hands-on experiences and real tools you can immediately apply in your co-op work term and EDGE experiences, like evaluating workplace tech, solving real challenges using ethical frameworks and recommending improvements that matter to employers. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to talk confidently about technology in professional settings and add clear, workplace achievements to your résumé.

This course was shaped with input from six faculty and industry experts, ensuring the content reflects current trends and real workplace expectations. You’ll regularly reflect on your experiences, track your skill development, and consider how your growth aligns with the demands of today’s fast-changing world of work, all while engaging in real workplace activities.

What will you do in PD 14?

  • Insights into the future of work that help you shape your career direction.

What does the course structure look like?

PD 14 is a 10-week course built around three modules. In total, PD 14 includes approximately 4-5 hours of instructional content, 4.5 hours of WIL activities, 3-4 hours of reflection and WIL workplace application (4-5 hours).

Reflection Moments

The course integrates reflection in three moments throughout to help you connect your learning to your professional growth. In these sections, you'll consider your goals and motivations, the progress you make in these areas and your development across the entire term.

WIL activities

These activities are authentic, skill-based, co-designed with an industry partner and take up to 1.5 hours each to complete. You'll apply your perspectives and skills to professionally-relevant contexts, such as comparative analyses and strategic recommendations.

WIL workplace application

The WIL workplace experience brings together your insights and skill development to support your ongoing WIL journey. You'll conduct one of three WIL activities (conduct a comparative analysis, conduct a responsible use of AI audit or create implementation considerations documentation for a new tech in the workplace) and apply what you learned through the course’s WIL activities and transfer it to your work environment.
