PD6: Problem Solving gives you the knowledge and skills you need to approach and tackle complex problems in the workplace.
Effective problem solving isn’t as simple as snapping fingers and making a decision — it takes creativity, communication and careful analysis. In PD6 you'll work through sample problems using a systematic process and make plans that are flexible and robust enough for use in any workplace.
What will you do in PD6?
- Determine the root cause and solution to a problem using analysis.
- Use different problem-solving styles to creatively solve problems.
- Determine barriers to problem solving and learn to address them.
Grading information
To pass PD6, you must satisfy both requirements below:

earn an overall grade of at least 50% on Assignments 1 - 5 (plus any bonus opportunities)

receive a minimum of 50% on the Major Reflective Report

Course instructors
Marlene Griffith-Wrubel
Marlene is a student advisor within Co-operative Education at the University of Waterloo. She helps co-op students working on campus achieve their goals and successfully complete their work terms. Marlene completed her undergraduate degree at Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master of Education at the University of Illinois, along with certificates in human resources management and insolvency counselling.
Lynn Long
Lynn is a senior instructional developer with the Centre for Teaching Excellence at the University of Waterloo. She also has extensive experience with the University's Conflict Management and Human Rights office, which serves as a resource to faculty, staff and students regarding harassment, discrimination, and other forms of conflict.
