Building a Canadian Startup in California

work group

President and Vice-Chancellor, Feridun Hamdullahpur invites you to join fellow UWaterloo alumni at the new offices of Embark Technology as we bring together industry experts (who just happen to be former Waterloo students!) for a panel discussion on the challenges of “Building a Canadian Startup in California.”

Well before the Chemical Engineering Capstone Design Symposium took place in March, OleoTech was making the rounds, generating excitement and funding for the sorbent technology that they created for their fourth-year design project and developed into a startup venture.

For their Capstone project, students Sinclair K. Hidajat, Cassidy Molloy, Gene Shim, Zeinab Sidahmed and Timothy Yeung put their minds together to tackle a pervasive form of environmental pollution: contamination of water by the continuous low-concentration release of hydrocarbons into the environment through stormwater runoff.

Thirty-five teams of fourth-year Chemical Engineering students shared the results of their Capstone Design project with fellow classmates, faculty, family and friends at this year’s Capstone Design Symposium in Engineering 6 on March 11, 2019.

The Symposium was an exciting conclusion to the past two years they have spent researching and attempting to solve some of the challenges our world faces. Each team conceptualized and designed a solution to a problem of their choice.
