At the most recent convocation (Fall 2016), Stanislav Sokolenko of the Department of Chemical Engineering (supervised by Prof. Marc Aucoin), was highlighted as this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Studies Award at the Doctoral level. Stanislav’s thesis, entitled “From metabolite concentration to flux - a systematic assessment of error in cell culture metabolomics”, has helped move the field of bioprocessing forward by actively combining metabolomic tools with the production of important biologics including virus-like particles (for use as vaccines) and antibodies (for use as cancer therapeutics).

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
