Professor Marc Aucoin's student Eric Blondeel (PhD Candidate, Chemical Engineering) and Moufeed Kaddoura (4A Microbiology) venture is revolutionizing the practice of allergy testing with a non-invasive skin patch for simple safe and certain allergy detection.  The standard allergy test attempts to cause an allergic reaction in a patient by piercing known allergens through the skin with needles.

Tyromer Inc., a University of Waterloo start-up founded by Chemical Engineering professor Costas Tzoganakis, has just won one of the top 50 entrepreneurial awards (screened from more than 2800 companies from 27 countries) at TiEcon 2014 in San Jose, CA.

The paper by Niousha Kazemi, Tom Duever and Alex Penlidis,  Demystifying the estimation of reactivity ratios for terpolymerization systems, AIChE J., accepted March 2014, was based on a conference presentation at the AIChE Conference, November 2013, San Francisco, and was identified by the industrial session chair, Dr. John R. Richards (E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, USA) as the ‘best presentation of the session’, paper # 432c’.

Alison Scott, a MASc candidate in Chemical Engineering, has been awarded the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation's Vale Master's Scholarship. Each year, the prestigious scholarship is awarded to one female engineering student enrolled in a Master’s program at a Canadian university. See the full story here.

Congratulations to PhD student Katharina Hassel  who won the first place award - "Reg Friesen student oral paper award" held at the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering Conference, Fredericton, NB. October 21, 2013.

Congratulations to Yung Priscilla Lai, Kyung Eun Sun and Hiroki Takamura on winning the 2^nd place poster presentation (capstone design project) for designing an undergraduate food processing laboratory for the University of Waterloo, held at the 4th annual Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA) Conference in  Montreal, QC on June 17-20, 2013.  

PhD student Drew Higgins has been named the recipient of the 2013 Electrochemical Society (ECS) Canadian Section Student Award for his research on nanostructured fuel cell and battery electrode materials, carried out under the supervision of Prof. Zhongwei Chen.
