Software

In addition to the licensed software provided by IST and   Engineering Computing  the following list of software is managed by the  department for administration, research and teaching.  For further information on usage or reference material contact Dennis Herman.

Self Managed Device Installation Instructions

Aspen 

  1. Connect to the campus network via Eduroam or the campus VPN service 
  2. Connect to the file share
    • Map a network drive to \\chefile.uwaterloo.ca\studentshare and use the drive letter S
    • Check the box to use different credentials 
    • When prompted specify your @uwaterloo.ca credentials
  3. Copy/Paste the installation package and then expand it
    • browse to the S drive and copy/paste the Aspenxxx.zip file you want eg Aspen12install.zip
    • right click the .zip file and select extract all
  4. Run the installer 
    • browse to the extracted folder then Aspen12 then double click the installaspen12.1.cmd

 AutoCad Plant 3D

    Create an account

  1. Go to Autodesk education and student access
  2. Click "Get Started."
  3. Select your educational role and click "Next"
    1. If you select "Student," input your date of birth
  4. Enter your first name, last name, UWaterloo email address (yourWatIAMuserid@uwaterloo.ca) and a password.
  5. Check the box agreeing to the Autodesk Privacy Statement and Terms of Use then click "Create Account."
  6. Verify your email address by opening the email that Autodesk sends you and clicking on the verification link.

   Install software

  1. Go to Autodesk education and student access
  2. Scroll down the list of Autodesk products. On the software you wish to download, click "Get started"
  3. Input your details: email, name, educational role, country, and institution
    • If you are a student, input your date of birth, enrollment date, and graduation date
  4. Click "Confirm"
  5. You should see a message saying "You're confirmed!" Click "Get Autodesk software"
  6. You should be on the same page: Autodesk education and student access. Click "Get product" underneath the software you wish to install.
  7. Select your operating system, version of the software, and language. Click "Install".
  8. Click "Accept"
  9. Download and run the setup file

Granta Edupack

  1. Connect to the campus network via Eduroam or the campus VPN service 
  2. Connect to the file share
    • Map a network drive to \\chefile.uwaterloo.ca\studentshare and use the drive letter S
    • Check the box to use different credentials 
    • When prompted specify your @uwaterloo.ca credentials
  3. Copy the installer to your PC
    • browse to the S:\GrantaEdupack folder and copy/paste the GRANTAEDUPACK_2024R1_WINX64.zip file 
    • right click the .zip file and select extract all
  4. Run the installer 
    • browse to the extracted folder then double click the edupack_setup_2024_r1.exe 
    • when prompted enter mmeansysteachlic.uwaterloo.ca for the license server

SolidWorks

  1. Uninstall any/all previous version of SOLIDWORKS
  2. Go to www.solidworks.com/SEK
  3. Click Yes
  4. Choose a version of SOLIDWORKS: Solidworks 2024 (SP02)
  5. During the download you will need UWaterloo MME’s specific Student Premium serial
    • Contact dherman@uwaterloo.ca to obtain the key.
  6. 6. Follow all remaining instructions and accept all defaults
