Desmond Conacher Scholarship

Thursday, June 15, 2006

We are pleased to pass on the news that Jessica Higgins has been awarded the prestigious Desmond Conacher Scholarship. This scholarship is offered annually to a Canadian student intending to enter a graduate programme in Classical Studies, Ancient History, Ancient Philosophy, or Classical Archaeology at any Canadian university. The scholarship commemorates Desmond John Conacher, formerly Professor of Classics at the University of Toronto, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and Honorary President of the Classical Association of Canada. The fund has received generous support from the Conacher family, from Trinity College (Toronto) and several other universities with which Desmond Conacher was associated, and from his many friends and colleagues. The current value of the award is $2,500. Jessica intends to hold the scholarship at UofT. Please join me in congratulating Jessica. We are proud of her achievement; it shows that Waterloo graduates are among the best in the country.  We would also like to congratulate Jessica as the Departmental Award Winner for Distinguished Academic Achievement in Classical Studies.
