Christie Digital Award Winners 2019

We would like to announce the Christie Digital Award winners for 2020. This competition was open to all students enrolled in the Digital Arts Communication Minor program in the Faculty of Arts and the course DAC 302 in particular.  Students applied with 1 minute videos in teams or individually and prizes ranged from $2,500, $1,000, and $500 respectively.

This award was made possible by a generous donation from Christie Digital Systems Canada Inc.

Kim Hong Nguyen, a faculty member in the Communication Arts Department, is the Lead Faculty Representative for the Waterloo Women's Wednesdays group.

W3 (Waterloo Women's Wednesdays) is a gathering (and mailing list) of women and non-binary grad students, post-docs, staff and faculty that meets on the last Wednesday of each month.

“The process of the filmmaking is an important learning and collaboration experience. Not only were the students getting involved with real world projects, but they also worked closely with Indigenous scholars and artists who are at the front line of decolonization.”  - Prof. Aynur Kadir

Communication is about making meaning, says Professor Robert Danisch, department chair of Communication Arts. “You make meaning by producing effects on others. So, it’s about how to produce the right kinds of effects to convey your message or ideas.” In fact, he's making effects on students of communication in the classroom and beyond with a toolbox of learning resources, including his podcast series, Now We’re Talking.
