Co-op website gets a face-lift

Student sitting at a computer

A message from Co-operative Education.

For some time now, we’ve heard from students that our co-op website could use a refresh. And we couldn’t agree more.

Over the past few months, we’ve consulted with students and staff across campus to gather feedback on our website and brainstorm how to make it a more useful resource for current co-op students. Our own co-op students played a significant role in this project by helping us inform and implement changes to the structure and design of the site.

Now, our new site is set up to help current co-op students navigate the co-op process by laying out information in a more user-friendly way, with a focus on the many supports and resources available across campus. Here are some examples of new, student-led changes you’ll find on our site:

  • Condensed co-op process information (fewer buried pages, less duplication, less clicking)
  • Condensed menu items (less scrolling)
  • New co-op roles and responsibilities section (for a deeper look at co-op student responsibilities as a co-op student, all in one place)
  • New supports and resources section (for an overview of the supports available to co-op students, all in one place)
  • More design elements like photos, infographics and buttons to make it easier to navigate the site on desktop and mobile

We will be continuing our work on the co-op website over the coming months, and would love to hear any feedback and suggestions. To submit your feedback or ask any questions, please fill out our survey via this link.

A message from the Copyright Advisory Committee Working Group.

As we head into the Fall term, we’re reaching out to all instructors to remind you of the services and resources available for assisting with copyright questions that relate to your teaching.

Services

  • Course Reserves, Print & Retail Solutions, or the Centre for Extended Learning staff will assess copyright concerns on your behalf, and apply fair dealing, a Library license, or purchase transactional licensing for you.
  • copyright@uwaterloo.ca – A team of four copyright helpers will work to assist you with your question.
  • Copyright workshops are offered each term. These sessions provide a simple overview of copyright as it applies to your teaching. Workshops are listed on the copyright website events page.

Resources

  • The Copyright at Waterloo website provides information to assist you, including a frequently asked questions page, and the Fair Dealing Advisory. These pages are available to guide the use of resources in your teaching.
  • E-Journals and e-Books are almost always covered by license agreements. License agreements set out specific rules to follow when using electronic resources.
  • To find out if you can use licensed content in LEARN, use the Finding Usage Rights page for step-by-step instructions on how to find license terms.

If you have any questions about copyright or licensing, please send them to copyright@uwaterloo.ca.

For more help using Library resources in your teaching, reach out to your Liaison Librarian. To find the Librarian for your subject area, use the Librarians by subject page.
