You can only receive a milestone for your on- and off-campus experiences if they're paired with professional development (PD) courses offered by the Waterloo Professional Development Program (WatPD). WatPD's suite of online courses help Waterloo undergraduates enhance their professional skills and improve their employability.
If you want to learn more about WatPD, we recommend visiting the WatPD website or contacting the program at watpd@uwaterloo.ca.
You can sign up for PD courses using Quest. The process is similar to the one used for enrolling in other academic courses.
If you're having trouble enrolling in a PD course or want to ask a question about the enrolment process, contact the WatPD team at watpd@uwaterloo.ca.
Some PD courses are intended for completion by co-op students or students in specific faculties (e.g. Engineering). All of the PD courses you can use to earn EDGE milestones are elective courses — they can be taken by students in every faculty, and they focus on professional skills that are widely applicable across industries.
EDGE students can only take one PD course per term. This includes PD1: Career Fundamentals, a PD course students can take to earn their career development course milestone.
If you have any questions about this policy or want to inquire about an exception, contact the EDGE team at edge@uwaterloo.ca.
You may be eligible for EDGE milestones based on your history as a co-op student. Former co-op students may be awarded work/community experience milestones if they successfully completed a PD course in tandem with a successful work term and a work report.
If you need more information about EDGE milestone eligibility based on academic history, visit our page devoted to the topic or contact the EDGE team at edge@uwaterloo.ca.
"One of the most valuable things I've learned is using what I've been learning through these PD courses in my day-to-day activities. The PD courses teach you a lot. For example, right now I'm taking PD5: Project Management, and it's helped me organize events and other big projects alongside my other responsibilities. I know how to expect problems when they arise and how to solve these problems within everyone's best interests."

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
