The Faculty of Environment Friend of the Faculty Award was established in 2019 to recognize individuals, companies and organizations whose support has strengthened the Faculty's mission through volunteerism, advocacy, philanthropic leadership, collaboration or other meaningful contributions.

The award may be presented in either the Individual or Organization category, or both, depending on the strength and composition of the nominations received.

Nominee eligibility

  • An individual, company, organization, group or foundation whose support of the Faculty of Environment has had significant impact.

  • Individual and Organization nominees are considered separately.

  • Excludes self nominations and current University of Waterloo faculty and staff

Selection criteria

Demonstrated contributions to the Faculty of Environment may include, but are not limited to:

  • volunteerism;
  • promotion or publicity of the Faculty;
  • fundraising efforts;
  • financial assistance;
  • hiring graduates and coop students;
  • research collaborations;
  • government support;
  • University governance; and/or
  • participation as speaker or lecturer.

Nomination process

  • Complete the online Nomination Form by April 30.
  • The Selection Committee will review all eligible nominations and select the recipient(s).
  • The award may be presented in the Individual category, the Organization category, or both, depending on the strength and composition of the nominations received.
  • The award(s) will be presented at the annual Alumni Awards Celebration each fall.
Nominations are accepted throughout the year and will be considered during the next annual selection cycle.
