Two Waterloo students are among the top recipients of The Starfish Canada's environmentalist award. Congratulations to Michelle Angkasa and Sriranjini Raman for being awarded the Top 25 Under 25 Environmentalists.
Michelle has taken part in various environmental initiatives and is a champion of sustainability efforts at the University of Waterloo as the University’s first sustainability commissioner. She has been part of many initiatives and facilitated projects that were led by students and inspired by sustainable development goals as a programming coordinator at ReImagine17; a national network of youths working to reinvent solutions to social, environmental, and economic concerns.
Sriranjini was recognized for her role as the creator of the climate literacy programs, Nurture and Pluriversity, which empowers youth to take charge of their communities. She is dedicated to reconnecting with nature and providing youth with opportunities to practice land stewardship.
The Starfish Canada recognizes and celebrates upcoming environmentalists by providing them with a platform to share their stories and connect with the community.
The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
