A team of five Faculty of Environment graduate students that won the Waterloo campus final represented the University at the national stage in the Map the System competition held from May 11 to 13, 2022.

A student of the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development (SEED), Terrance Chen, was announced as the inaugural recipient of the $10,000 new Mobility Bursary created by subsidiary New Flyer of America Inc. (“New Flyer”) in partnership with supplier AROW Global Corp (“AROW Global”).

On July 1, Professor Bruce Frayne will begin his tenure as the new dean of the Faculty of Environment for a five-year term. Prior to his appointment, Frayne was a tenured, full professor at the University of Waterloo serving a second term as the Director of the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development in the Faculty of Environment.

Environment does it different

On Thursday May 12, 2022, the Faculty of Environment held the first in-person General Assembly in over two years. The assembly received an entertaining annual report presentation from all the departments, attributed to Dean Jean Andrey’s goal for a creative spin on the classic reports.

A new report warns extreme heat is set to cause devastating climate-related suffering in Canada, that if left unchecked, will surpass the 595 heat-related fatalities reported by British Columbia's coroner in 2021, and 86 lives lost in Quebec in 2018.

A student of the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development (SEED), Hafij Khan, is making a massive difference in the world. Khan has been elected as a member of the Executive Committee of Warsaw International Mechanism (WIM) for loss and damage by 48 Least Developing Countries (LDCs).

Three students of the Faculty of Environment dominated this year’s winter term Social Impact Showcase organized by St. Paul’s University College GreenHouse by winning three out of the nine ventures that pitched for the coveted awards.
