We want to hear from you!
FAUWffice Hours are held on various days and times throughout the year to provide opportunities for everyone to attend. Two members of the Board will be present during all FAUWffice Hours to listen and/or provide answers to matters you care about.
These FAUWffice Hours will be held in FAUWs offices - MC 4002, 4003 and 4004 on Wednesday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with FAUW staff:
Nicole Burnett, executive manager
Nicole manages FAUW operations, administrative functions, and provides support and strategic advice to FAUW’s directors, officers, and staff. Nicole is the Board Secretary, on the Executive Committee, on the Governance Review Committee, and a resource on the Faculty Relations Committee and the Compensation Strategy Committee. Nicole is on Canadian University University Teachers (CAUT) Council and Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) Council and part of Canadian Organization of Faculty Association Staff (COFAS). Nicole worked to implement the FAUW Strategic Plan with the Board and is responsible for the institutional knowledge and research for FAUW. Nicole is in charge of FAUW funds through bookkeeping and forecasting; she can tell you how every bit of your membership dues are used. If Nicole’s door is open in MC 4002 you are welcome to stop by anytime. Of importance to Nicole is that members use the fauwpres@uwaterloo.ca email when contacting the President for all FAUW-related matters, and fauw@uwaterloo.ca for any other inquiries so that she can stay on top of all things FAUW!
Sue Fraser, academic freedom & tenure and policy officer
Sue supports the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee which helps faculty members with workplace challenges they may be experiencing. These problems range from the application of University policy or the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), to concerns about tenure, promotion, and performance reviews. Sue also attends Grievance Officer meetings and training organized by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) to learn about policies and trends in universities across Ontario. If you have any questions about the process around sabbatical or parental leaves or what to do to prepare for a tenure application, you can reach out to AF&T Committee by emailing fauwaft@uwaterloo.ca. Sue is the only person with access to that email and will reach back to you with resources or help you set up an intake appointment with the AF&T Chair.
Sara Perkins, communications and membership services officer
Sara manages FAUW’s communications, including all email communications, monthly member newsletters, the FAUW website and LinkedIn account, event planning and promotion, and liaising with other campus communicators. Sara is responsible for developing and implementing the Association’s communications strategy, in line with FAUW’s strategic plan, advises on reputational risk, and produces reports for general meetings and other branded reports, presentations and documentation. Sara is the first point of contact for any member queries or concerns sent to fauw@uwaterloo.ca – if she doesn’t know the answer, she will find it for you! Sara runs all elections and member votes, leads volunteer recruitment strategies, supports the Nominating and Elections Committee, New Faculty Orientation Committee, FAUW’s Council of Representatives and Hagey Lecture Committee, and handles all marketing and communications for the Hagey Lecture series. Sara also provides tech support to the Association, maintains our member database and mailing lists, and tracks member data and other metrics.
