Nine Waterloo researchers will receive more than $17 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation(CFI) for infrastructure to support their research.
The awards from CFI’s Innovation Fund were announced today by Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science. Waterloo researchers chosen for funding through the Innovation Fund are:
- Kyung Soo Choi (Physics and Astronomy): Photonic Quantum Circuits - The Integration of Atomic and Solid-State Quantum Systems ($960,000)
- Adrian Gerlich (Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering): Next Generation Joining Technologies ($1,925,191)
- Thomas Jennewein (Physics and Astronomy): Quantum Communications Payload Operations Centre ($338,601)
- Richard Kelly (Geography and Environmental Management): Airborne Cryospheric SAR (CryoSAR) System ($493,158)
- Jonathan Price (Geography and Environmental Management): Wetland Ecosystem Terrain Systems Simulator (WETSyS) ($1,083,524)
- Ehsan Toyserkani (Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering): Canadian Additive Manufacturing Network (Can-AMN): A Network for Holistic Innovation in Additive Manufacturing ($7,023,813)
- Steven Waslander (Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering): RoboDrive: Waterloo Autonomous Driving and Driver Assistance Research Facility ($1,934,865)
- William Wong (Electrical and Computer Engineering): Facility for Functionally Advanced Sensor Technology ($2,852,298)
- Michael Worswick (Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering): Transportation Lightweighting for Clean, Efficient Vehicles and Human Protection ($861,091)
