A RAC 1 shuttle service in now available. This service is an interim solution, intended to meet the need and gather data while longer term transit planning takes place.
RAC to main campus shuttle service: update
Starting September 14, 2026, the RAC shuttle service is moving to a batched dispatch model. This change is intended to make more efficient use of the service while it continues to meet demand.
What's changing: Requests for the same route arriving within 10 minutes of each other will be grouped and picked up together in a single vehicle, rather than dispatched separately. As a result, riders may experience a wait of up to 10 minutes longer than under the previous on-demand model before their taxi is dispatched.
What: Taxi-based transportation will continue to be provided for persons travelling between RAC and main campus.
When: This batched dispatch model begins September 14, 2026. The shuttle itself remains available 24/7, as before.
Where: Pickup and delivery points remain RAC1, QNC, and Davis Centre at the respective ring road pullouts.
How: Call Waterloo Taxi at 519-888-7777 and request a pickup for the University of Waterloo RAC1 shuttle. To avoid confusion, please provide the correct name of the service to the dispatch attendant. Your options are University of Waterloo RAC1 shuttle or account 3555. Dispatch will request your name, your point of pickup, and destination. You must specify how many riders are in your party so that Waterloo Taxi can properly group your ride.
Who: Any person travelling between RAC and either of the two main campus points may request a ride.
Hours: 24/7
Cost and Limitations: This free service continues to cover ONLY rides between RAC1, QNC, and Davis Centre. Other destinations will be at the rider's expense. Hazardous materials may not be transported by taxi.
Comments: Please send your comments and observations to Mac McIntosh
