Guo-Xing Miao is the director of Nanotechnology Engineering (NE) and director of Graduate Studies for the Quantum Information (QI) program at the University of Waterloo. He has served as a professor at both the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering since July 2025. Dr. Miao first joined IQC in May 2011 as a research assistant professor, was appointed assistant professor in 2012 and advanced to associate professor in July 2018.
Prior to joining IQC, he received his PhD from Brown University in 2006 and then went on to roles as a postdoctoral associate and research scientist at the Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
