The Journal of Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism honoured Mike Sharratt, former Kinesiology chair and Applied Health Sciences dean, by dedicating an inaugural ‘Horizon’ paper to him.

“We were inspired by the example of the late Dr. Mike Sharratt, an accomplished and impactful Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo,” reads the paper’s abstract. “Dr. Sharratt had a unique ability to bring experts together and translate theory into action, with a central goal of optimizing the health benefits of exercise, particularly in the fields of cardiac rehabilitation and aging.”

The paper, titled “Horizon Meeting on Cardiovascular Physiology: Dedicated to Dr. Mike Sharratt” by Catherine F. Notarius, Robert Boushel, Maureen J. MacDonald and J. Kevin Shoemaker, was based on a conference held last year on cardiovascular physiology. It highlights major achievements in the field in the past 10 years, and identifies current challenges and future research goals. Both MacDonald and Shoemaker are UWaterloo alumni.
