Academic integrity

To create and promote a culture of academic integrity, the behaviour of all members of the University of Waterloo is based on honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility.

All members of the uWaterloo community are expected to hold to the highest standard of academic integrity in their studies, teaching, and research.

The Office of Academic Integrity’s website contains detailed information on the University's policy for students and faculty. This site explains why academic integrity (AI) is important and how students can avoid academic misconduct. It also identifies resources available on campus to help achieve academic integrity in and out of the classroom.

Liaison librarians

Jackie Stapleton, Liaison Librarian, Kinesiology provides library research and teaching support for Kinesiology students, staff and faculty. Liaison librarians provide guidance on finding and/or citing information for course assignments, papers and presentations. Specialized support for conducting advanced literature searches for theses, review papers and article publications is also available.

The university offers various student support services across campus to assist students in a variety of areas.

Service Description
Academic Advisors Academic advisors are available to assist with course planning and a variety of other needs.
Student Mentorship Program

weCONNECTu is a mentoring program offered for students by students. Our upper-year mentors offer a variety of programs to assist first-year students in the Faculty of Health including workshops and review sessions. Students can also be matched with an upper-year mentor for one-on-one support and as a contact for questions.

Supported Learning Groups

Supported Learning Groups (SLGs) are free study sessions intended to give first-year students a chance to study with classmates for some particularly challenging courses. 

SLG sessions focus on modeling learning strategies on "how to learn", while being integrated with the "what to learn".

Counselling Services Counselling Services in Needles Hall offers free confidential counseling (group and individual) and consultation for students.
Study Skills Workshops Workshops offered through the Student Success Office assist students in a variety of areas including study skills, anxiety, procrastination, preparing for exams, and stress reduction.
Health Services Health Services provides services including the student medical clinic, occupational health, mental health, nutrition services, and health education including the Personal Best Program, which assist students with promoting and maintaining overall health and wellness.
Tutoring in residence The living learning program offers tutoring in residence for a variety of courses on a weekly basis.
AccessAbility Services AccessAbility Services promotes access to programs, services, and facilities for students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors with permanent or temporary disabilities. The office provides information to students, academic accommodations, and various support services.
Career Services The Centre for Career Development offers services including various resources, workshops, events and individual appointments for students. Appointments can be made for the following: résumé and cover letter critique, career exploration and decision making including job search advice, mock interviews for jobs and professional school, and assistance with grad/professional school process and review.

Student Success Office

From success coaching to a writing centre, the University of Waterloo's Student Success Office offers various initiatives and programs to promote continued student success and an improved overall student experience.

You can find them on the second floor of South Campus Hall or contact the Student Success Office with any comments or questions.

UWaterloo Portal

Portal is a new initiative by the Student Success Office which helps to streamline many different services/notifications which are used on campus.

A few examples of the portal content so far:

  • Just-in-time notifications of academic deadlines (i.e. arrange fees due date)
  • Real-time GRT bus data 
  • Real-time data of space availability in computer labs and student parking lots
  • Personal class/lab/tutorial and final exam schedules
  • List of sublets available and roommates wanted
  • Map that routes to next class, food locations and buildings
  • List of textbooks and reserves needed for courses

Learn Advising Group

Learn will be used extensively throughout all of your coursework while at Waterloo. There is community group set up on Learn called Kin Advising. Please ignore the ‘Kin Year 1 Advising’ subsection. This code cannot be changed but does not impact students.

The content browser tab has been populated with lots of information pertaining to course offerings, course syllabuses, degree requirements, graduate school information, Registrar’s Office forms, minors/options/specializations, past/present undergraduate handbooks and much more.
