Biography

Dr. Connor Doherty is a lab instructor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo. His teaching focuses on exercise physiology and applied human physiology, with an emphasis on helping students connect theoretical concepts to hands-on laboratory experiences. He brings extensive experience in undergraduate teaching, having previously instructed courses in cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology, exercise physiology and kinesiology seminars. Dr. Doherty's research background includes designing and conducting human physiology studies, cardiorespiratory exercise testing (VOmax), ultrasound imaging and physiological data collection. Passionate about student learning, he is committed to creating engaging, supportive, and interactive learning environments that foster critical thinking and confidence in laboratory skills.

Research

Dr. Doherty's research focuses on the integrative cardiovascular and respiratory responses to exercise in humans. His doctoral research examined the physiological mechanisms regulating blood flow during exercise, with a particular focus on the role of vascular β-adrenergic receptors in mediating sex differences in exercise hyperemia. His current research interests centre on advancing our understanding of the mechanisms responsible for the integrated cardiorespiratory response to exercise, with the goal of furthering knowledge of human cardiovascular and exercise physiology.
