Kinesiology Lab Days

High school students on cycle ergometer in physiology lab.

We established Kinesiology Lab Days more than 40 years ago as an introduction to the then relatively new field of kinesiology — the science of human movement. Since then, the University of Waterloo has established itself as an international leader in kinesiology research and education.

Though we weren't able to welcome high school students to our in-person labs in December 2020, we embraced the opportunity to bring our labs into classrooms through three virtual kinesiology labs in November and December.

Recognizing the challenges educators continue to face with ongoing COVID restrictions, we're extending access to the labs until April 23, 2021.

To access the labs, please register by April 16, 2021.

Virtual labs

Flexing arm emojiWork those muscles!

Force, fatigue, and function! In this lab, students will put their muscles to the test and learn about muscle force generation with experiments focusing on muscle moment arms, muscle fatigue, and muscular endurance.

Heart emojiDon't miss a beat!

Got rhythm? In this lab, students will get to the heart of the matter and learn about the cardiovascular system and various health benchmarks through experiments on blood pressure, resting heart rate, heart rate recovery, and VO2 max.

Brain emojiReady, set, neuro!

Do you have lightning fast reflexes? In this lab, students will dive into the topic of neuroscience, investigating response time and automaticity through interactive experiments, Hick's Law, Fitt's Law, Stroop Effect, and Dual Task Paradigm!
