Management Engineering and Management Sciences students have once again won top prizes at the Canadian Operations Research Society (CORS) student paper competition. They presented their papers at the 2017 CORS conference, held in Quebec city.
Alexandra Hayes, Christian Gould, Kevin Chu, and Srikajan Santhirakumaran came in first in the undergraduate category. Their paper, titled "End-to-End Analytics: Wait Time Management of Ontario MRI Services", was based on their capstone design project. The team had previously also won a 2016 Baylis Medical Capstone Award and also captured the top prize at the 2017 Management Engineering Design Symposium. The project was supervised by Prof. Hossein Abouee Mehrizi. Management Engineering students have now won the top prize in this category in 2015, 2016, and 2017!

In addition, Gizem Nemutlu, a PhD student supervised by Prof. F. Safa Erenay won second prize in the open category, with a paper titled "Optimal Vaccine Administration Policies Using Multi-dose Vials of Different Sizes"
According to CORS, the student paper competition is meant "to recognize the contribution of a paper either directly to the field of operational research through the development of methodology or to another field through the application of operational research. The competition serves to showcase the high quality of OR education in Canada as well as the excellence of the new generation of operational researchers."
