Current graduate students

This concert will explore chamber music repertoire by two Canadian composers: Seven Tableaux from the Song of Songs by Srul Irving Glick, and Selections from Trio, composed by Grebel alumna Erica de la Cruz, setting poetry by University of Waterloo Professor Sarah Tolmie.

Earth Peace, by Carol Ann Weaver, recently composed and compiled in South Africa and Namibia, tells global stories of conflict, pain, resolution and joy.  The work contains choral music, string quartet, and readings which represent various troubled parts of our world.

Three amazing student musician Chamber groups perform a selection of classical music pieces.  Music will include the following:

On the island of Bali, Indonesia the idea of community and the spirit of interaction are highly valued and extend to music-making. Being an aural/oral tradition, repertoire—from ritual pieces to modern compositions, instrumental or dance—is learned through imitation and repetition, by listening and watching (i.e., without the use of notation). Students experience this communal process of creating a unified sound on a gamelan semara dana (one of several types of gamelan found in Bali) consisting of gongs, metallophones, drums, and flutes. 

Music of Joy and Peace is a collaborative, interactive performance with Mini Ode Kwewak N’gamowak (the Good Hearted Women Singers).

A Concert of the Global Mennonite Peacebuilding Conference and Festival, featuring choirs, gamelan, and an original composition titled “Earth Peace” by Carol Ann Weaver, Professor Emerita of Music.

Joint Honours Music and Recreation and Leisure Studies student, Emily Spina (mezzo soprano), will perform her final grad recital for Music 428. Come hear her lovely singing from composers Mozart, Strauss, Schumann, Vaughan Williams, Saint-Saens, Copland and others.
