Ensemble auditions for Fall 2018 are open for registration

The University of Waterloo Department of Music at Conrad Grebel University College invites all students, faculty, staff, and community members to join most of the eight ensembles that it sponsors and organizes.

Instrumental: Instrumental Chamber Ensemble; Jazz Ensemble; Orchestra; World Music Ensemble (Balinese Gamelan)

Noon Hour Concert: V'la l'bon vent, v'la joli vent

KW Wind QuintetThe KW Woodwind Quintet has chosen a program of delightful music by French composers to showcase the "jolie vent" that wind instruments create. The concert will include Ravel's Tombeau de Couperin, Debussy's Children's Corner, Bozza's Scherzo, and Bizet's Carmen Fantasie. Bienvenue à notre concert!

Noon Hour Concert: Harp & Song

Harpist Lori Gemmell and tenor James McLean will perform a selection of classical music.  This concert features French songs by Debussy, Faure and Tournier, British Folk songs by Benjamin Britten, and Glen Buhr's setting of Tolkien's epic Tale of Tinuviel.

Noon Hour Concert: The Water is Wide

Ellen McAteerSoprano Ellen McAteer and pianist Geoffrey Conquer present an afternoon of love, longing, and laughter.  "The Water is Wide" will journey from Mozart's charming lieder to Canteloube's haunting Chants d'Auvergne (Songs of the Auvergne) to selections from Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn (The Boy's Magic Horn), ending with Britten's beautiful folksong settings.

Noon Hour Concert: Debussy String Quartet

Four members of the KW Symphony will play Debussy's First String Quartet, in G minor, Op. 10.

Don't let the formal title of this extraordinary work fool you!  Debussy's First String Quartet is anything but formal.  Its fleeting mood, ravishing grandeur, and subtlety of timbre eclipse the rigours of traditional form.  Follow that with the fun of William Bolcom's Ghost Rags and you'll find a classical road map to jazz.  Join friends from the KW Symphony in this performance of music that enlivens and inspires.

Noon Hour Concert: Far and Wide

Goodchild Grady DuoThe Goodchild Grady Duo will present an all Canadian program of works for clarinet/bass clarinet and percussion. Featuring Toronto based composer Shelley Marwood, Saskatoon composer Kendra Harder as well as other contemporary composers. Some of the works incorporate theatrical elements and contemporary techniques.  The duo is comprised of  clarinetist Melissa Goodchild, and Kevin Grady on percussion.

Jazz United: Jazz Ensemble Concert

jazz ensembleThe UWaterloo Jazz Ensemble consists of approximately 20 jazz aficionados playing standard and non-standard jazz instruments.  Directed by Michael Wood, this ensemble will play a wide selection of popular jazz music.  this concert will feature the music of Sonny Rollins, Ralph Towner, Joe Sealy, Leonard Bernstein and Rodgers & Hart.

Admission is $10/$5 students & seniors
