Benjamin Britten’s quirky cantata, Rejoice in the Lamb, set to the delightfully peculiar poetry of Christopher Smart is the feature work on the University of Waterloo Chamber Choir’s term-end concert.  Organist Jan Overduin joins the choir in this program at Knox Presbyterian Church, Waterloo.  Music by Jan Sandström, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Tim Corlis, Franz Biebl and others completes the program. The Chamber Choir is directed by Mark Vuorinen.  Tickets are available at the door.

Mary-Catherine PazzanoComposed by Carol Ann Weaver, "Songs for My Mother - from Appalachia to Africa" is a song cycle based on writings from her mother Miriam L. Weaver's pioneering life in Appalachian Kentucky in the 1940s (primitive house, flat iron, Hard Shell Baptists who met outside on the hillside), her travels to Africa, and her return to Virginia with poignant words about her sudden impending death in the 90s.

Music Builds Community at UW

Students at the University of Waterloo are an incredibly diverse group, with interests spanning math, health, engineering, science, environment, and arts. Many of these students have spent hundreds of hours of their life learning a musical instrument and, instead of giving up their love of music while at university, they have found a collective place to express it. The orchestra@uwaterloo is a full-sized symphony orchestra whose players are students, staff, faculty, and alumni of Waterloo.

"Ah, music. A magic beyond all we do here."  JK Rowling
The orchestra@uwaterloo produces many such magical moments. Directed by Daniel Warren, students, staff, faculty and alumni from all faculties join together to play beautiful symphonic music.

This concert will feature the Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake Suite, Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, and Dvorak's Symphony No. 6 in D Major.
