University Choir Concert: Island Music

On July 15th the University of Waterloo presents a special program of exploration, history, and collaboration through music. “Islands” brings story and song from some of the world’s most fascinating island communities. Hawaii, New Zealand, Cuba, and Jamaica are real islands with unique and interrelated musical cultures featuring popular and beloved music. We will also be weaving a Canadian island song into our concert. The concert will also feature the “premiere” of the UW Choir’s first music video produced this summer by the choir members themselves.

Amanda KindSince graduating from the University of Waterloo just over a decade ago, Amanda Kind (BA ’06) has grown into an inspirational leader for young performers in her community. Bechtel Lectures in Anabaptist-Mennonite Studies: Hymn Sing with Dr. Kenneth Nafziger

On that beloved song book, the Book of Psalms, Martin Luther wrote, “No books of moral tales and no legends of saints which have been written, or ever will be, are to my mind as noble as the Book of Psalms… The human heart is like a ship on a stormy sea driven about by winds blowing from all four corners of heaven. The Book of Psalms is full of heartfelt utterances made during storms of this kind.”
