Balinese Gamelan Ensemble Demo in Rock Garden

Join us for a University of Waterloo Balinese Gamelan Ensemble mini-concert and demonstration on Friday, September 6th at noon.  The Peter Russell Rock Garden is a lovely place to enjoy even a few minutes of music.  Stay after the concert and try a few instruments yourself.

Noon Hour Concert: A Veiled Symphony

Heidi Wall, pianistJohannes Brahms composed Piano Sonata No. 3 with a masterful combination of free Romantic spirit and strict classical structure when he was 20 years old.  This Piano Sonata is infused with the motif's from Beethoven's 5th Symphony during the first, third, and fourth movements.

Noon Hour Concert: Touring Europe

Joseph Lanza, violinPlaying on period instruments, violinist Joseph Lanza and harpsichordist Borys Medicky will play a selection of classical music from Europe.  Lanza is a professor at Western University, and the concertmaster of the London Symphonium.  Medicky is an internationally known harpsichordist, who also does repairs and builds instruments as a side line.

Noon Hour Concert: Indulgences


Elizabeth LutiSimone Luti, pianistSoprano Elizabeth Lepock and collaborative pianist Simone Luti will present musical indulgences on the topic of food, poetry, love, and more… Arranged as a meal, this recital will include a few “meatier” songs sets, by such composers as Liszt and Rachmaninoff, interspersed with shorter tidbits, by Canadian composer David MacIntyre, setting appetizer and dessert food descriptions.

Noon Hour Concert: and oboe makes four...

oboeThe Consortium Arts Ensemble will play Benjamin Britten's Phantasy Quartet for Oboe and String Trio, as well as Mozart's Oboe quartet in F major.  Members consist of Anita Walsh on the violin, Brenna Hardy-Kavanagh on viola, our very own Ben Bolt-Martin on cello, and of course to round out the group, the renowned Jim Mason on the oboe.
