Music Department Sessional played at Japan's Consulate-General

Gerard Yun (University of Waterloo choir ensemle director), was invited to play shakuhachi on Friday, November 22nd, a the Consulate-General of Japan, which hosted an invitational event for dignitaries and guests to celebrate the birthday of the Japanese Emperor. The annual, formal event will be held at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto and includes a formal reception with the Consul General, musical performance, and dinner. 

At this event, Yun played a series of three shakuhachi performances in the course of the evening in the JCCC's Kobayashi Hall and Shokokai Court. He performed in full traditional cultural dress including kimono and hakama (men's kimono pants) and haori. The concert literature was of traditional honkyoku (shakuhachi solo literature) with a smattering of modern works (again for solo shakuhachi).
