Elaine Sweeney earned her Bachelor of Music degree from McGill University in Montreal and her Masters of Music (Performance) from the University of Toronto, studying under world-renowned clarinetist, Avrahm Galper. She has performed widely in both classical and musical theatre settings as well as several big bands on saxophone. She is a founding member of the New Berlin Chamber Ensemble, which has toured extensively across Canada and has appeared on TVO's Studio 2. The ensemble's recording La Dolce Vita (of which she was producer, arranger and performer) can be heard regularly on CBC Radio. She also performs regularly with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Orchestra London, the Stratford Festival, the Drayton Festival as well as the Licorice Allsorts Clarinet Quartet.

She is currently the clarinet studio instructor at Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo and was the Director of Instrumental Chamber Ensembles there from 1999-2007. Elaine frequently gives clinics and workshops throughout Southern Ontario and is a member of the Canadian Music Festival Adjudicators Association.
