Jane Maness received a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance from the University of Toronto. She has been a member of the National Youth Orchestra and the Canadian Opera Company. She joined the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in 1975 and the Canadian Chamber Ensemble in 1978 and has been a featured soloist with both groups. She is the tuba and euphonium instructor at the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University. She has taught at various summer music camps in Southern Ontario, including Interprovincial Music Camp, as well as the Banff Festival of Youth Orchestras. She revised the Royal Conservatory of Music tuba examination syllabus in 1999 and the Sight Reading and Ear Training brass examination requirements in 2003. In 2010, Jane was a guest tuba artist at the International Women's Brass Conference held in Toronto
