Victor G. Spears

Dr. Victor G. Spear earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in Ontario in 1982 and completed his Therapeutic Management of Ocular Disease Certification in 1994. He is presently in part time clinical practice in Toronto, as well as serving as the past Director of Optometric Services at the Toronto Laser Sight Center. His extensive experience includes years of clinical work at the North York Medical Arts Ophthalmology practice.

Dr. Spear is a respected lecturer, sharing his expertise on the pre- and post-operative management of PRK and LASIK, as well as advancements in ophthalmic technology across the USA and Canada. He has been a significant figure in the eye care industry, co-founding several prominent companies, including INNOVA Medical Ophthalmics, blueS4 Manufacturing (now part of Advancing Eye Care Manufacturing), S4 USA Inc., S4 Mexico Inc., and Innovative Excimer Solutions, Inc. These entities have merged into Advancing Eye Care Inc., the largest eye care instrument distributor in North America.

His leadership roles have included serving on the Board of Directors of Advancing Eye Care, being past Vice President of the Canadian Glaucoma Research Society, and participating on the Clinical Practice Committee of the Ontario College of Optometrists.

Dr. Spear is dedicated to global eye care, having participated in eye care missions to Guyana, Haiti, and Brazil since 1991. From 2005 to 2011, he was part of the Remote Area Medical team in the Amazon rainforest region of Guyana, providing eye care to the indigenous population. He continues his humanitarian efforts with the Canadian Vision Care Charity group. In recognition of his contributions, he received the prestigious Paul Harris Award from the Rotary Club.

Additionally, Dr. Spear has contributed to the University of Waterloo, having been a past member of the Department of Science Fundraising "Brain Trust" Campaign and currently serving on the Steering Committee of the Waterloo Eye Institute initiative.
