Giving back through volunteering

Waterloo School of Pharmacy recognizes volunteers during National Volunteer Week. Vivian Ng (BSc Pharmacy ’05) has been volunteering for over 10 years as a PharmD interviewer at Waterloo Pharmacy since the program’s inception. She works jointly at Grand River Hospital (GRH) and St Mary’s General Hospital (SMGH) in the Integrated Clinical Pharmacy Lead Informatics Specialist role.

Waterloo Pharmacy student co-op work term eye-opening experience. Blair McCullough (Rx2024) was attracted to the Waterloo School of Pharmacy program because of its innovative co-op program and in particular the opportunity to work with Indigenous Peoples.

Every March since 2016, students from Waterloo’s School of Pharmacy have been volunteering and visiting Region of Waterloo schools to educate the younger generation on what pharmacists do during Pharmacy Appreciation Month (PAM).

Waterloo Pharmacy professor and doctoral student invited to discuss recent research findings in Neurology. In an age of misinformation, knowledge translation (KT) is an increasingly important way to communicate research to the audiences who need it.

Waterloo Pharmacy student members of the Canadian Association of Pharmacy Students and Interns (CAPSI) travelled to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to attend Professional Development Week (PDW) this past January.

PDW is an annual conference that gathers CAPSI members across Canada. Students participate in competitions, attend speaker panels and connect and network with other pharmacy students across the country. After three years of virtual events the students were able to attend the conference in person again this year.

Every shot, a shot of gold

The Waterloo School of Pharmacy implemented a mass vaccination clinic for COVID-19 immunization in 2021.

With many multidisciplinary teams working together in an environment not built for such a complex clinical system, researchers at the University of Waterloo created an app to support front-line workers. The app streamlined information flow to help solve logistical challenges that arose.

The future of pharmacy

With the health-care system rapidly changing across Canada, in 2020 Waterloo School of Pharmacy examined its PharmD curriculum to identify ways to offer students a more cohesive experience for a dynamic practice environment. The new changes were implemented earlier this year to prepare students for the changes in the profession with the rest rolling out in the coming years.

International Women's Day 2023

Happy International Women's Day! This International Women's Day we're celebrating our female pharmacists and all their contributions to healthcare.

Around the world it is estimated that 1.8 billion people menstruate every month according to UNICEF. Yet menstrual equality, period poverty and the stigma surrounding periods continues to create barriers for those who bleed.
