As Pharmacy Appreciation Month (PAM) closes, here’s a quick look back on all the activities.

To do our part, Waterloo Pharmacy officially launched its Women in Pharmacy Leadership program (WIPL) this week. The program consists of an event series for all members of the Waterloo Pharmacy community and a mentorship program for female alumni interested in leadership. This week’s launch included a virtual keynote address from Amy Oliver and a tailored workshop with first cohort of mentees and mentors in the WIPL Alumni Mentorship Program.
On April 4, the provincial government posted the Ontario College of Pharmacists’ draft regulations which propose expanding pharmacists’ scope of practice to include the assessment and prescribing of select minor ailments. The proposed regulations have a public consultation window of ten days before proceeding to cabinet for final approval. The University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy welcomes this proposal, as it increases access to care for Ontarians.

Alumnus Mohamed El Sheikh (above, right) shares his experiences as a Sudanese-Canadian pharmacist. Born in Sudan, Mo came to Canada with his family as a boy and has lived across the country and in the U.S. He graduated from the School of Pharmacy in 2020 and advocates for antiracism in health-care education and practice.
