Billable Work

Billable work includes repairs, upgrades, and additions for an occupant's specific operation, desire for improvement, or space alteration.

Suggested accounts for clients to use for internal chargeouts related to billable work requests include 60690 (Alterations & Renovations), 60830 (Building Maintenance), 60840 (Equip & Furniture Maintenance), 60450 (Sanitation), and others that may be appropriate for the scope of work.  Note that account 60140 (Contracted Services) should not be used, as it is for costs associated with hiring external individuals or other entities to deliver services obtained through formal agreements or contracts.

Maintenance & Operations

Maintenance & Operations are base services/repairs to maintain the functionality, comfort, safety, and efficiency of UW-owned buildings, systems, and grounds.

Billable Work Maintenance & Operations
  • Projects requiring design planning, professional engineering, and permitting
  • Coordination of outside contract work
  • Installation, service, and repair of departmental or laboratory equipment 
  • Installation, upgrades, or modifications of electrical outlets or lights
  • Furniture design and repair
  • Repair or replacement of non-standard hardware
  • Non-common area painting and carpeting beyond the planned maintenance cycle 
  • Event support, i.e. cleaning, set-up, tear-down, heating-cooling schedules
  • Basic custodial services in common areas
  • Routine exterior painting of buildings and interior painting of public and common areas 
  • General building repairs 
  • Maintenance of building life-safety, and systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and lighting 
  • Pest control 
  • Care of trees and shrubbery, lawns, sidewalks, parking lots, and snow removal 
  • Maintenance and repair of standard door locks and door hardware
