Key Control is responsible for the distribution and safekeeping of keys to facilities on campus. There are more than 50,000 key transactions per year.

Hours of Operation
Open between 8:00 am - 11:30 am and 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
Note: We no longer have extended hours during the first week of the term.
Each department has one or more persons, usually administrative assistants, who are authorized to issue keys and request lock changes within the department.
Keys should be returned to the authorized contact person from the department that issued the key. Some departments require a deposit for keys and are responsible for reimbursing that deposit. No deposit on keys will be refunded by Plant Operations.
If you find keys, please return them to Key Control or UW Police. If you lose keys, check with Key Control or UW Police. If neither Key Control nor UW Police have the lost keys, notify the authorized contact person from the department that issued the keys.
Return bent or broken keys to Key Control for a replacement key. If a key is broken off in a lock, report it to Plant Operations 24 hour service and maintenance line at ext. 43793.
Door and Lock Repair
These do not get reported to Key Control or the locksmiths. Please call the Plant Operations 24 hour service and maintenance line at ext. 43793.
Lock Changes (re-keying)
Please see the authorized contact person for your department. Lock changes are non-billable.
Desk and Cabinet Keys
Duplicate or replacement keys can be requested by completing the Desk/Cabinet Key Request form and sending it to Key Control.
