Using her experience as medical doctor and special advisor on health for Nishnawbe Aski Nation – an organization representing 49 First Nation communities in northern Ontario – Jane Philpott will examine causes and consequences of the main health issues in Indigenous communities.

The talk will take place Thursday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m., with reception to follow at 8:30.

  • Played a lead role in policies that have shaped Canada: Bringing in 25,000 Syrian refugees, legislating medical assistance in dying, negotiating a health accord with new resources for mental health and home care, and improving infrastructure for First Nations to provide clean water
  • Family doctor for 30 years, with 10 years in Niger, West Africa
  • Former chief of family medicine at Markham Stouffville Hospital

This Hallman Lecture is presented by University of Waterloo's School of Public Health and Health Systems and the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences.
