Study abroad

Monash University, Australia

Why did you want to do a study abroad term?

I wanted to go on an exchange for a number of reasons. For one, the pandemic gave me a newfound appreciation for travelling, so I knew I wanted to travel as much as possible. I also met an exchange student from England while at school, and she couldn't say enough good things about it. When I learned that there were no added tuition fees, it was a no brainer.

What did you enjoy the most about studying abroad?

Meeting new people. It’s super easy to meet other exchange students because everyone shares a similar mindset. Through this, I’ve also learned so much about other countries where students are from, not just the country I’m living in.

What did the process look like to do an echange?

I attended a short webinar to learn more about it, picked out some schools I’d like to go to, then I got a match for one of my top ranked schools! From then on, it was super easy to find housing, choose courses and go through some other logistics. The Student Success and Exchange offices at UWaterloo supported me through the whole process so it was super easy.

What advice do you have for others who are thinking about doing an exchange?

Exchange is such an iconic part of your university experience and something you’ll look back on for years. You don’t want to finish your degree having any regrets, so take advantage of the opportunity while you can!
